In spite of many predators, these birds are common in most parts of the world, because of their adaptability, early maturity and high reproductive range. There are usually 9-15 ducklings in a brood. Ducklings are unable to fly, which makes them easy prey not only for avian predators, but also for large fish, fish-eating birds such as herons, and other aquatic hunters. Terrestrial predators, like foxes, feral dogs and others, raid ducks’ nests for eggs and ducklings. In flight, these birds may fall a prey of falcons or eagles.
